I crave shoes the way some women crave chocolate. Unfortunately my craving is usually a bit more expensive much to my husband’s chagrin. But nothing feels better to me than having the perfect pair of shoes, boots or sandals to complete the outfit I am wearing or to conquer what is in store for me that day.
This spring the shoes are wonderful! I love the caged sandals, block heels, wedges and platforms and even all the sneakers! I think one of the best ways to begin a shoe collection for each season is to buy shoes that are not at the height of the trend but compatible with it. As you will notice caged sandals were also in last spring, and so were block heels. And of course there are things that never go out of style, like a fantastic pair of black suede boots in the winter and a great pair of ballet flats in the spring and summer.
I am going to do this blog by occasion, in other words what you could wear for an evening out and occasions, what you could wear to the office or for meetings and daytime events and what you can wear on the weekend and for casual everyday.
Shoes for evenings and evening occasions:
Heels never go out of style. What changes is pretty much the width of the heels and the style of the rest of the shoe. This season heels heights can vary with how you feel. For example if I am going to be standing all night I won’t be wearing my highest heels. But if I am going to sit at dinner for most of the evening then I can.One of this spring’s most popular occasion shoe has a higher block heel and ankle strap. This pair is by Steve Madden at Nordstrom but I have seen tons of this style everywhere. Stuart Weitzman is doing their own version of the this shoe style but with a bit lower heel. Also at Nordstrom. By the way both these shoes come in 10 or 11 colors including florals and brights. If you want to stay super trendy for spring buy them in metallics or brights.
Shoes with ties are also quite stylish for Spring 2017. We have seen a lot them in casual styling but you can totally do an occasion shoe with ties up the ankle as well. This pair is by Kenneth Cole, also at Nordstrom. You can go with ones that tie up a bit higher but wrapping around the ankle is where most fashion houses are showing. Speaking of ankle wrap shoes for occasion, there are lots and lots to choose from. They can be as simple as this pair from Steve Madden. Or as detailed as this pair from Jessica Simpson. And even tasselled like this pair from Loeffler Randall.
Embellishment is also very popular for evening shoes and if you go for an embellished style you can even do something in a flat and it will look a bit dressier. A pair of pointy toe flats with an embellishment can take you almost anywhere this spring. This pair is by Tory Burch.
Embellishment can work for any heel height and can make a simple outfit great. One of my favorite shoe designers is Kate Spade. You could never go wrong with this pair of central heels. Or choose her version of the ankle wrap in her manor heels, they also come in a fab blue! And no one does a dressy evening shoe like Kate her ilona too heels will take you anywhere. Kate Spade shoes are available at Nordstrom but for the best selection look at her website, she ships to the US and Canada. And there are Kate Spade stores in most major cities.
I am going to move on to work shoes, but the beauty of shoes is that pretty much any daytime shoe can work for an evening occasion depending on how formal it is. So if I show you a shoe in another category you love to go with a dress or outfit, there is no rule you can’t wear it out in the evening or casually as well.
Daytime, Office and Daytime event shoes:
A few women wear higher heels for their careers as well. But as you enter you middle-aged years it gets harder and harder on your ankles, feet and legs. That is why the block heel is so great. A pair of shoes like Kate Spade’s Christopher too heels can work for day as well as evening. A wider heel is always more comfortable than a skinny one. 9 to 5 shoes can be high, medium or flat, they can be closed toe, peep toe or sandals. It really depends on where you work and how conservative you need to be. If you practice law or are high up in your company, you will be wearing the above shoes when you are not in court or at meetings. If you need them there are lots of classic style pumps in the spring colors available. This pair is from Michael Kors. You can even do a more classic style pump with a lower block heel for the courtroom or business conference. Stick with a classic pair of L.K Bennet suede pumps and if you dare to try some color Marc Fisher has a pointy toe block heel pump that is stylish and a bit conservative. And if you dare maybe try a pair of pumps with an embellishmentthis pair of Paul Green pumps is conservative enough while still be a bit trendy. Great with a suit!
But most offices today and most careers are a bit less conservative. If you work in a creative environment there are so many options it will make your head spin!
One of the quintessential shoes for Spring 2017 is the block heel mule. This one is from BP at Nordstrom. You can buy them at every price range. They come in every fabric, color and pattern if you work in a creative office try your mule with color like the Steve Madden one above or with a great print like this one from Sole Society. This is the one shoe that you can wear with everything from ankle pants to maxi dresses and all the great spring styles in between.
Another style of mule that is great for a creative office or more casual environment is the flat mule . You will see quite a lot of this style for spring. I love them in metallic ( these are Louise et Cie) and the pale shades in suede. You can do an ankle wrap for daytime, but stick with a lower block heel or even something flat. I actually own this great pair of Paul Green ankle strap flats. They work with wide leg crops and are fabulous with all my maxi and midi skirts. They would be great for a work day when you are standing constantly
. The cutout bootie sandals is another big trend for Spring 2017. These work for the office and for casual. There are lots of style choices and colors. The black pair is from Vince Camuto and this pair is Nine West. Again you will find these everywhere.
Sandals and open toe shoes are really prominent for daytime events for Spring. Sling backs with a block heel like these Halogen pair are available everywhere and sandals with detail like this pair from Sole Society with the ankle strap will work with almost everything in a neutral color. Every office will have its own dress code, depending on where you work you may even want to wear the shoes I am going to show in the casual trend.
This is where spring shoes really shine is in the casual trend. I saw an image that really inspired me a couple of days ago this image showed up in my inbox from Nordstrom. And it started my shoe craving all over again. The shoes are from Vince Camuto in the picture. Casual shoes can be anything from heels, flats, wedges, sneakers and they can work with everything.
Adorable statement sandals like these from Stuart Weitzman will look great with denim and little dresses. Or have fun with a printed pair of high thongs from Kate Spade. You can even slide into a pair of Jessica Simpson studded open toe flat mules. I love the creativity in casual shoes. Again I am going back to Kate Spade to give you inspiration: Look at this darling Colorado Sandal, I could live in these! Tassels and pom poms are huge trends for Spring. How about these Sunset sandals if my blog had emojis I would heart these!
Any shoe with a woven or espadrille heel is also perfect for spring 2017. Here is a great pair from Tretorn ( now you know they will be comfy!). Wedges are great when paired with one of the spring trends Kate Spade’s Javelina wedge is ankle tie and has a woven heel! Slides work in every color and style. These are Dolce Vita but just pick a pair that you love and you will live in them!
And of course I don’t want to forget about sneakers! You name it in sneakers it is in.From metallic Vans to Puma’s Basket strap exoticskin sneaker. Do your sneakers in canvass and suede with perforations and even ruffles like this adorable pair from Seychelles. Even the flat espadrille trend ( Athena Alexander) work in place of sneakers just in case you don’t want to wear sneakers.
It’s funny but I have been typing for 1600 words and I don’t feel like I have even scratched the surface of the shoes available for Spring. Do yourselves a favor, take some time and visit your favorite websites and see all that is out there.
If you ask my opinion and you only could buy one new pair of shoes for spring then I would say buy a pair of block heel mules. Buy them in a bright color or great pattern that blends with your wardrobe and every time you wear them you will feel stylish!
